How Much Does an AI Voice Agent Cost? A Practical Way to Think About It

It is the first question every business asks, and on its own it is the wrong one. What an AI voice agent costs only means something next to what missed and mishandled calls already cost you. Here is how to think about both sides.

By SpeakNova Team

When people ask what an AI voice agent costs, they are usually trying to answer a bigger question: is it worth it. That depends on two numbers, not one. The price of the agent, and the cost of the calls you are currently losing. Skip the second and the first is meaningless.

The pricing models you will see

Providers price in a few different ways, and the headline number is not always comparable:

  • Per-minute usage. You pay for the call time the agent handles. Simple at low volume, less predictable when calls spike.
  • Flat monthly plan. A set fee for a defined level of service, which makes budgeting easier and protects you during busy periods.
  • Setup or implementation. Many providers also charge to build and configure the agent, especially when they do that work for you rather than handing you a self-serve tool.

What should be included

Two quotes at the same price can deliver very different things. Before comparing numbers, confirm what each one actually covers:

  • Setup and configuration with your real business information.
  • Integrations with your calendar and CRM, not just call answering.
  • Follow-up texts, lead capture, and call summaries.
  • Ongoing support and tuning after launch, not only at go-live.

The number that actually matters

A missed call is a customer who chose you, could not get through, and dialled the next business on the list. To size it, count your monthly inbound calls, estimate the share you miss at peak times and after hours, estimate how many of those would have become customers, and multiply by your average customer value. For many businesses that figure is larger than the cost of the agent several times over, because the misses cluster at the moments customers are most ready to buy.

In order to facilitate that, I would need to have 15 to 20 staff members. With SpeakNova, I just need one because it is handling all of the calls.

Compare on total value, not sticker price

When you put offers side by side, weigh them like this:

  1. What is the all-in monthly cost at your real call volume, including any usage charges?
  2. What does it replace, in missed calls, overflow staffing, or an answering service?
  3. How much of the work does it actually do: answering, booking, logging, following up?
  4. Who builds and supports it, and is that included or extra?

Run that comparison and the cheapest sticker price is rarely the best value, and the agent usually pays for itself against the calls it stops you losing.
